I’m a big fan of Sean Hennesey’s Speed Thief comics, and I gave the first collected volume of his work my Stomp of Approval. I was very excited, therefore, to learn that Volume 2 would be available at DinoCon 2026, and made sure to grab myself a copy while I was there!
Speed Thief: Volume 2 delivers more of Sean’s witty and scientifically informed prehistory comics in a nice little hardback book to grace your bookshelf.
One criticism I had about Volume 1 concerned the formatting. I felt that the comics and their labels were occasionally spread awkwardly across some of the pages. Even if it was ultimately a minor complaint, this aspect has been drastically improved for Volume 2. I feel like it just generally looks that much better this time.
Another difference with this volume is the addition of informative captions to each comic. They mostly add small educational details about each strip’s subjects, and elucidate a bit of Sean’s though process in creating them. It’s a welcome addition that I feel brings extra value to the book.
My kids and I have all enjoyed reading and re-reading Speed Thief: Volume 2. Sean is still going strong with his comics, and if he produces a third volume, I’m sure I will be getting that one as well. (You can find this book and more at his Etsy and Redbubble shops.)
