T. REX (Rextooth Studios)

Today’s review covers another book by comic author and illustrator Ted Rechlin. This time, I’m taking a look at T. REX, the official companion book to the Imax film of the same name, from Giant Screen Films.

Appropriately for an Imax tie-in, this is one of the largest books so far produced by Rextooth Studios, both in page length (176 pages) and absolute size, taking up considerably more space than Ted’s other books do on my shelf!

With this increase in size, T. REX manages to cover a greater breadth in scope compared to Ted’s other T. rex books, such as SUE: Welcome to the World of Tyrannosaurus. Topics discussed include T. rex’s cultural influence, the evolution of tyrannosaurs generally, scientific information on T. rex as a species, and a look into in the daily lives of tyrannosaurs.

Rechlin’s characteristic flashy style extravagantly accentuates each page. I feel like Ted’s work has become a lot more detailed with his recent books, a trend especially evident here. It’s a testament to his evolution as an artist, and I enjoyed all the extra detail present in these illustrations.

T. REX makes for quite the comprehensive overview of the great tyrant lizards. You get a lot of bang (or should I say “bite”?) for your buck with this one, and I felt it well worth the purchase. This book definitely earns my Stomp of Approval, and I heartily recommend it to dinosaur fans old and young. For other books by Ted Rechlin, check out my reviews of SUE, Sharks: A 400 Million Year Journey, 50 Million Years of Whales, and Jurassic.
